Russian Bombers ‘Intercepted In British Airspace’
Rare photos of Russian strategic bomber jets purportedly intercepted in British airspace show Moscow’s war machine is becoming increasingly bold, analysts said Thursday as Russia denied any territorial violations.
Britain’s Ministry of Defence released images it said were taken earlier this month of two Russian Tu-160 bombers — known as Blackjacks by NATO forces — as they entered UK airspace near the Outer Hebrides islands off Scotland’s northwest coast.
It said the March 10 incident, which resulted in crystal clear images of the planes against clear blue skies and a dramatic sunset, was one of many intercepts carried out by British Royal Air Force crews in just over 12 months.
“This is not an unusual incident, and many people may be surprised to know that our crews have successfully scrambled to intercept Russian aircraft on more than 20 occasions since the start of 2009,” Wing Cdr. Mark Gorringe, of the RAF’s 111 Squadron, said in a statement.

Alcatel-Lucent Introduces Multi-Screen, Multimedia Products
There are many screens in our lives today – the TV screen, the computer screen, the mobile screen and now the tablet screen. But when it comes to delivering video clips to those screens, each one has to be treated differently, scaled to handle not only the different connection speeds but also the variations in screen size.
Today, at the CTIA show in Las Vegas and IPTV World Forum in London, Alcatel-Lucent is introducing a new suite of services for service providers that promise to reduce not only the complexity that comes with delivering video to multiple screens but also the time involved and the costs associated with managing multimedia.
At its heart, the company is trying to sell the suite to service providers as a means of stimulating video consumption by making it easier, a money-maker for the service providers, as well as the content creators. The offerings include:

Rap Beef N*gga!: House GOP Leader Says Bullet Fired Into Office After Health Care Vote
Rep. Eric Cantor, the No. 2 Republican in the House of Representatives, said Thursday that a bullet had been fired through a window at his district office in Richmond, Virginia. He also said he had received threatening messages.
He said he would not publicly release the messages out of concern that doing so would only incite further violence.
He also accused Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine and Rep. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland — a member of the Democratic House leadership — of “fanning the flames” of violence by using threats that have been made against Democratic members “as political weapons.”
“Enough is enough,” Cantor said. “It has to stop.”
Democratic National Committee spokesman Brad Woodhouse hit back against Cantor’s claims. (more…)

U.S. Announces Arms Control Treaty With Russia
The United States and Russia have reached “the most comprehensive arms control agreement in nearly two decades,” President Obama said Friday.
The agreement cuts by about one-third “the nuclear weapons that the United States and Russia will deploy,” the president said. “It significantly reduces missiles and launchers. It puts in place a strong and effective verification regime. And it maintains the flexibility that we need to protect and advance our national security, and to guarantee our unwavering commitment to the security of our allies.”
Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will sign the agreement April 8 in Prague, Czech Republic, the president said.
The new treaty will consist of three tiers, the White House said.
“Under the Treaty, the U.S. and Russia will be limited to significantly fewer strategic arms within seven years from the date the Treaty enters into force,” the White House said in a news release. “Each Party has the flexibility to determine for itself the structure of its strategic forces within the aggregate limits of the Treaty.”

Max B Granted Appeal In Murder Case
Mr. Wavy may wash ashore sooner than expected. XXLMag.com spoke with incarcerated rapper Max B’s manager, Joli O’Shay, earlier today (Mar. 19) and she says the Harlemite was recently granted an appeal in his murder case.
According to O’Shay, Max is now sitting tight as he awaits an actual appeal date. Once that comes in the MC known as Biggavelli, has a new lawyer to fight for his innocence. “He’s gonna try hopefully to go back to trial, or get it a mistrial or get it time served, whatever we can do,” she said.
As previously reported, Max was sentenced to 75 years in prison on September 3, 2009 for orchestrating a 2006 robbery that left a man slain in a Fort Lee, New Jersey hotel.
The former Jim Jones protégé was convicted of felony murder, aggravated manslaughter, kidnapping, armed robbery and conspiracy.
O’Shay, who speaks to Max daily, says he’s in good spirits about the appeal. —Jesse Gissen
