STF: Senators Urge Facebook To Change Privacy Settings

by iSpit

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg received a letter from four Democratic senators Tuesday.

I always keep it 100 with yall so I’m gonna say this…I did NOT see this coming…WTF is the purpose of this?…Smokescreen??? Yeah…smokescreen

Four Democratic senators called on Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Tuesday to reconsider the recent changes in its privacy settings and asked the Federal Trade Commission to streamline guidelines regarding privacy on all social networks.

“Now, users have less control over private information, and it was done without the users’ permission,” Sen. Charles Schumer, D-New York, said on Capitol Hill.

Schumer and Sens. Michael Bennet of Colorado, Mark Begich of Alaska and Al Franken of Minnesota sent a letter to Zuckerberg about Facebook’s decision to allow third-party sharing of users’ information.

“We are writing to express our concern regarding recent changes to the Facebook privacy policy and the use of personal data on third party websites,” the senators wrote. “The expansion of Facebook — both in the number of users and applications — raises new concerns for users who want to maintain control over their information.”

Last week, Facebook began a “small pilot program” with Microsoft Docs.com, Pandora and Yelp that would offer personalized experiences when visiting those sites. (more…)

CIA/NOI/FBI Hired Malcolm X Killer Freed After 44 Years

by iSpit

Thomas Hagan was captured shortly after the assassination of Malcolm X on Feburary 21, 1965.

Thomas Hagan, the only man who admitted his role in the 1965 assassination of iconic black leader Malcolm X, was paroled Tuesday.

Hagan was freed a day earlier than planned because his paperwork was processed more quickly than anticipated, according to the New York State Department of Correctional Services.

Hagan, 69, walked out of the minimum-security Lincoln Correctional Facility at 11 a.m. The facility is located at the intersection of West 110th Street and Malcolm X Boulevard.

Hagan had been in a full-time work-release program since March 1992 that allowed him to live at home with his family in Brooklyn five days a week while reporting to the prison just two days.

Last month, Hagan pleaded his case for freedom: To return to his family, to become a substance abuse counselor and to make his mark on what time he has left in this world. (more…)

AstraZeneca Pays $520 Million Fine Over Marketing Of Seroquel

by iSpit

AstraZeneca has completed a deal to pay $520 million to settle federal investigations into marketing practices for its blockbuster schizophrenia drug, Seroquel, the Attorney General, Eric Holder, said at a news conference Tuesday afternoon.

“AstraZeneca paid kickbacks to doctors as part of an illegal scheme to market drugs for unapproved uses,” Kathleen Sebelius, secretary of health and human services, said at the event in Washington. She said the company promoted drugs for unapproved uses by children, the elderly, veterans and prisoners.

Glenn Engelmann, AstraZeneca’s U.S. general counsel, released a statement saying the company denies the allegations but settled the investigation with the payment.

“It is in the best interest of AstraZeneca to resolve these matters and to move forward with our business of discovering and developing important, life-changing medicines — while avoiding the delay, uncertainty, and expense of protracted litigation,” Mr. Engelmann said. (more…)

F*ck Outta Here: “New” Ice Cube

by iSpit

Its been a while since I did one of these, but its necessary…

Ice Cube, you’re a gangsta rap legend. What the f*ck are you doing to yourself? Have you been illuminated or something? You had to because you’re losing your mind *No Plies*. Yeah you made a few kids movies & that horrible movie with Mike Epps & Young Jeezy but Tupac had a nose ring & thought he was Bishop…everyone has their faults. Now you wanna rap again huh? What brings this about O’shea? Bored with homosexual hollywood? Reminiscing about the good ole’ N.W.A. days? Wondering where all your street cred went? (probably the same place Ice T’s went)  You come out repping the old west but then you come out dissing a bunch of rappers (namely newer west coast representers) & then cop a plea. That sounds like you’re from the new west (i.e. The Game or Game or Jayceon…whatever). So what really is your aim? Are you gonna let this album flop (“I Rep That West” has a good beat but the lyrics suck) then make a movies about it? Or are you gonna put a bunch of Mike Epps skits on it & feature Lil Bow Wow? Did you think dressing up like Carlos Mencia on the cover was gonna give it that Wild Wild West feel? Well you were wrong O’Shea. How about a Dodger hat & some Dickies? Thats the type of music we’re looking for on this album. Nobody wants to hear new Ice Cube sounding  like Russell Red, we want old Ice Cube sounding like Craig.

A little bit of gangsta music with a postitve message (sometimes)… Whats so hard about that?

Pandemic Of Panic: The Great Volcanic Shutdown Was The Price We Pay For A Society That Overreacts To Any Risk

by iSpit

smoke and steam rises from the volcano under the Eyjafjallajokull glacier in Iceland

Well, was it worth it? The six-day shutdown of most of Europe’s and all Britain’s airports is estimated to have cost the airline industry at least £1.2 billion. Millions of people have suffered expense, inconvenience and even distress rescuing themselves from faraway places.

But doubt persists about whether the danger posed by Iceland’s volcanic ash cloud justified the drastic response.

Scientist Dr Grant Allen, of Manchester University’s Centre for Atmospheric Science, uses words of evasion that are almost self-parodying: ‘Analysis of these atmospheric measurements is early and still ongoing and being supplemented with new measurements all the time.’

In short, he hasn’t a clue.

Eruption: The Iceland volcano caused travel chaos

Nor have the rest of us – because these are issues beyond our competence. The image of a huge jet’s engines suffering multiple failure because they are clogged with superfine silicates, plunging several hundred people to their deaths, is horrendous. (more…)

Google Map Reveals Britain Is Third In The world for ‘Big Brother’ Requests About Its Citizens

by iSpit

Google Government Requests tool

Britain is ranked third in the world for the number of requests by the State demanding personal information about internet users.

Google said only Brazil and the U.S had recorded more requests for information about citizens’ email accounts and passwords.

The 1,166 applications made by the Government, police and even local councils between July and December last year was the equivalent of more than six every day.

The Google Government Requests tool shows how many data and censorship demands the search giant receive every six month

Critics said it was proof the authorities remain determined to mount surveillance operations against the public. (more…)

Trap Or Die: Tracing Young Jeezy’s Road From BMF To Billboard

by iSpit

By: Dell Frost

With hip-hop heavyweights like Outkast on hiatus and T.I. serving time, Young Jeezy has officially taken the top slot in Atlanta’s pecking order. Of course, Jeezy’s ascent to the upper ranks of hip-hop would not have been possible without the assistance of the now infamous Black Mafia Family. The curious relationship between Jeezy and BMF is newly explored in the book BMF: The Rise & Fall Of Big Meech And The Black Mafia Family by Mara Shalhoup, and what the author uncovered is simply unbelievable. After only a few minutes of conversation with her, one thing becomes clear: this was a wild ride rivaling anything you’ve seen in a Hollywood crime movie.

Jeezy has long won over the listening public with his dope-boy anthems. The impending sequel to his landmark street album, Trap or Die, represents a bit more than something to ride to this Spring. In a way it brings us full circle to the beginning of Jeezy’s career, when the blueprint for the original Trap Or Die was laid. In that era, Jeezy rode with a crew called The Black Mafia Family, or BMF, who were later outed for running a drug trafficking organization that pulled in an estimated $270 million dollars by the federal government.

German Central Bank Admits that Credit is Created Out of Thin Air

by iSpit

german bank

Most people think that banks lend solely from their base of deposits. Some also know that with fractional reserve banking, they can loan out many times more than they actually have in reserves.

But very few people – with the exception of those in the banking industry and financial experts – know where credit really comes from.

Germany’s central bank – the Deutsche Bundesbank (German for German Federal Bank) – has admitted in writing that banks create credit out of thin air.

As the Bundesbank states in a publication entitled “Money and Monetary Policy” (pages 88-93; translation provided by Google translate, but German speaker and economic writer Festan von Geldern confirmed the basic translation): (more…)
