Multiple Sclerosis And Arthritis May Be Linked To Lack Of Sun, Say Scientists

by iSpit

Insufficient exposure to sunshine, resulting in low levels of vitamin D, could play a part in a wide-range of diseases, from multiple sclerosis to rheumatoid arthritis, some cancers and even dementia, scientists say today.

A study funded by the Medical Research Council, the Wellcome Trust and others, has succeeded in mapping the points at which vitamin D interacts with DNA. Scientists from Oxford University found that the vitamin exerts a direct influence over 229 genes that are known to be involved with certain diseases. Many of the diseases that are implicated are more common in the northern hemisphere than in sunnier, southern climes.

Scotland, for instance, has one of the highest rates of multiple sclerosis in the world. The disease is virtually unknown in Africa. The study, published in the journal Genome Research, lends substantial support to the hypothesis that the migration of humankind, hundreds of thousands of years ago, to the colder and darker parts of the world had an effect both on skin colour and on susceptibility to certain sorts of disease.

Research has previously suggested that the need to make more vitamin D resulted in the lightening of skin and hair of people who migrated to the north.

A lack of vitamin D has long been known to have an effect on bones. The theory runs that women who were unable to make enough vitamin D suffered from contracting pelvises, with the result that they and their unborn babies died in labour.

Canadian Taxpayers Fight Back with a Proposed Landmark Class Action Lawsuit Against the Minister of National Revenue

by iSpit

The Canada Revenue Agency is out of control and acting like an agency in a fascist dictatorship usurping individual democratic rights. The grounds for the proposed Class Action against the Canadian Minister of National Revenue include fraud, discrimination, harassment, intentional infliction of emotional distress, abuse of process, breach of trust, breach of privacy, negligence, breech of confidential relationship, invasion of privacy, arbitrary targeting of taxpayers and abuse of power.

The Canadian taxpayers allege that the Canadian Minister of National Revenue and the CRA are routinely and arbitrarily targeting individual taxpayers, violating the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the Canadian Human Rights Act, the Canadian Bill of Rights, the Statute of Limitations, Contract Law and the Income Tax Act itself including the Taxpayers Bill of Rights.

The CRA takes power over the individual taxpayers life and finances. The Minister of National Revenue continues to ignore the human consequences of the unjust actions of his agency the CRA and removes the individuals power to self govern his life, and live independently in safety, freedom, and protected from unlawful seizure of personal assets.

Iamnotadictionary Phrase Of The Day: Capitus Diminutia Maxima

by iSpit

Have you ever wondered why you had to fill out so much extensive paper work when applying for a job? Have you ever been curious as to why your credit score was so important? Have you ever tried signing up for power, water, a cell phone plan, cable TV or internet and you had to give out your Social Security Number? Well… Here is the Answer to all of the above mentioned questions…but first, a little history….

The Great Society of Rome… The Forefather to the Romance languages, The Creator of the concept of “Republic,” (and later Despotism) the primary Pinnacle of Western Society itself. If anyone knew how to make a law, code, decree, mandate, or precedence, it was Rome… Here are a few Phrases most of you (if not all) will find very interesting

1) Capitis Diminutio Minima

2) Capitis Diminutio Media

and the most interesting…

3) Capitis Diminutio Maxima

These Phrases are in Latin and in were enforced in Roman Law. They referred to one’s Status within the Society itself. I’ll briefly explain each one and their meaning one at a time.

1) Capitis Diminutio Minima

The Romans were Fanatical about names, family names, social status, documentation and record keeping. They would go as far as to have different grammatical tools within words to act as a type of flag system… This might sound a little odd; however it’s a fairly basic concept. Capitis Diminutia Minima was used in Roman Court records to acknowledge separation of an Individual from a Family…(Marriage, Exile, inheritance, and so on) The individuals name on all the records involving that case would be spelled as follows

10 Things Not To Do When Applying For A Credit Card

by iSpit

Do one of these things and Wham! you hurt yourself; we tell you how badly

As with any loan, applying for a credit card involves preparation, especially if your credit history is less than sparkling. But a few activities — some of them not obvious — can hurt your chances of getting approved for that new plastic.

If you’re looking for a card, the best thing you can do to increase your chances is to pull your credit report, review it for accuracy and analyze the data to make sure you’re in the best possible financial standing.he worst moves you can make to spoil your chances of getting a credit card? Lenders and financial counselors offered these top 10.

To further illustrate the impact, we’ve included Whammies, which show — on a scale of 0 to 4 — just how much each mistake will hurt you. The most Whammies, the more it hurts.

1. Letting Your Credit Score Slip

go-go.jpg

Why It Hurts You: Credit card companies look at your score to make their ultimate decision on whether you get a card.

With increasing legal constraints on the lending industry and a surge in consumers with money woes, many credit card companies no longer offer credit to low-score applicants. You may be denied a credit card based on your score.

Lenders differ widely on their cutoff points. How can people find out the credit score requirements of a company prior to applying for a credit card?

Russell Simmons Unveils “Coexist” Banner Near Ground Zero – Gothamist

by iSpit

Russell Simmons is a real Renaissance man: he was the co-founder of the Def Jam label, he’s tried to clean up rap lyrics, and he’s mentored Ashley Dupre. And now he’s literallyunveiled a message of peaceful coexistence to opponents of the planned mosque and community center, by hanging a giant “coexist” banner in the windows of his apartment.

Simmons apartment on Liberty St. overlooks Ground Zero. Each letter of the banner features different religious and spiritual symbols. Like Bloomberg, Simmons is a big supporter of the planned center: “I was trying to figure out ways I could reach people and promote a message of tolerance…The fact that it is a public discussion, that there’s so many against it is what I think is disappointing to me, that so many people don’t know that we founded our country on the First Amendment,” he told the AP.

Not everyone is as taken by the statement however: “It looks more like astrology signs,” Ayo Aduroja, 45, of Staten Island, told the Daily News. But some people are always going to be hard to satisfy: construction worker Andy Sullivan said he could accept a mosque built five miles away from Ground Zero…but not if it involved Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf. “With this particular guy, I’m starting to get a very bad feeling. I’m a street guy from Brooklyn, so I go with my gut.”

Professors To Debate Sterilizing “Mentally And Morally Unfit” On BBC Radio

by iSpit

Edward Stourton chairs a live debate in which Professor David Marsland defends his view that the mentally and morally unfit should be sterilised. Professor David Marsland is Emeritus Scholar of Sociology and Health Sciences at Brunel University, London and Professorial Research Fellow in Sociology at the University of Buckingham. He argues that the only way to prevent the abuse and neglect of children whose parents are incapable of looking after them is to stop them from being born in the first place. It should be open to police and social workers to recommend that drug addicts, alcoholics and the mentally disabled should be irreversibly sterilised – and the courts should be able to enforce this. Challenging his views will be three expert witnesses including a senior social worker, a drugs charity lawyer and a moral philosopher. Listeners also join in via emails and text-messages.

Minister Calls for Thorough Examination of Possible Link Between H1N1 and Narcolepsy

by iSpit

Minister of Health and Social Services Paula Risikko says it is essential to thoroughly examine suspicions that increased outbreaks of child narcolepsy might be linked to the H1N1 swine flu vaccine.

However, the Minister said the swine flu vaccination programme would continue. In her view, Risikko thought it wise to examine any connection between narcolepsy and swine flu vaccine in other European countries.

The National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) is to determine if vaccine for the H1N1 swine flu could be linked to an increase in cases of narcolepsy among children.

The condition causes excessive daytime sleepiness even after adequate nocturnal sleep.

Although the THL’s Vaccine Department Director Terhi Kilpi does not fear any connection between the H1N1 jab and narcolepsy, she says doubts must be examined.
