So the story goes that Pete Rock did this beat back in 1997, Put it in the vault for safekeeping then brought it out about 12 years later. SAS gets a hold of it and buys if for their new album. Around the same time Kanye discovers it and pays waaaaaaaay more than they did for it… and somehow Rah Digga got it last…Idk… I just report this stuff.

Strong Arm Steady ft. Curtis Mayfield – Makings of You (Prod. by Pete Rock)

Rah Digga ft. Curtis Mayfield – My Joy (Produced by Pete Rock)

And the one we’ve heard before…

Kanye West ft. Pete Rock, Jay-Z, Charlie Wilson, Curtis Mayfield & KiD CuDi – The Joy

Master Maestro Showdown: Kanye West vs. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

by iSpit

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Kanye West’s fifth solo album, is an achievement as grand as his ego. Featuring a bevy of performers and a kaleidoscope of sound, West’s record, out on Tuesday, sounds more like Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles or The Legend by Johnny Cash than anything currently on the pop charts. Curious about how West’s album might stack up against history’s highest-regarded musician — Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart — we invited Jeffrey Beecher, the double-bass player for the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, to help us compare West to someone he’d probably consider his musical peer. This is the tale of the tape.

Power vs. Eine kleine Nachtmusik: Eine kleine Nachtmusik was written in 1787 and features viola, cello, violin and strings. “Each instrument comes on with a new personality, like the song’s a dinner party and each instrument changes the conversation,” Beecher says. Power, the first single from West’s new record, is the most traditional hip-hop track on the album and features a sample of 21st Century Schizoid Man by King Crimson. “A lot of ego’s involved in that,” Beecher says, and he’s not wrong as one wry scatological lyric takes braggadocio along an unusually visual path. West elevates this song in his live show, but it pales in comparison to “a little night music.”

Senate Panel Approves Domain Name Seizure Bill

by iSpit

Uh…oh

A controversial proposal allowing the government to pull the plug on Web sites accused of aiding piracy is closer to becoming a federal law.

After a flurry of last-minute lobbying from representatives of content providers including the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), a Senate committee approved the measure today by a unanimous vote.

In the last week, support for the bill known as COICA, for Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act, broadened beyond groups traditionally active in online copyright disputes to include the Newspaper Association of America, which said the legislation was needed because online piracy “undermines the investments that newspapers make in journalism.” Labor unions, including the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, argued that American workers “have suffered significant harm due to theft of copyrighted and trademarked goods.”

An ad appeared in a newspaper targeting Capitol Hill yesterday signed by groups including Major League Baseball, the NFL, Nintendo, and Viacom. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce pressed Congress to move quickly, and even Rob McKenna, Washington state attorney general, signed on to the effort.

CDC and ADA Now Advise to Avoid Using Fluoride

by iSpit

A new study in the Journal of the American Dental Association finds once again that, contrary to what most people have been told, fluoride is actually bad for teeth.

Exposure to high levels of fluoride results in a condition known as fluorosis, in which tooth enamel becomes discolored. The condition can eventually lead to badly damaged teeth. The new study found that fluoride intake during a child’s first few years of life is significantly associated with fluorosis, and warned against using fluoridated water in infant formula.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is of a similar opinion. According to their website:

“Recent evidence suggests that mixing powdered or liquid infant formula concentrate with fluoridated water on a regular basis may increase the chance of a child developing … enamel fluorosis.”

Popular Music Sites Raided By Homeland Security / ICE

by iSpit

A large file-sharing link site dedicated to rap and hiphop music and news has been raided by the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The servers of RapGodFathers, a site with close to 150,000 members, were seized and moves put in place to take over its domain name. Following raids earlier in the year which took out several sites and domain names connected to the streaming of Hollywood movies, we can now report fresh Department of Homeland Security / Immigration and Customs Enforcement action against a site in the music sector.

Acting on a search warrant issued on 23rd November and signed by United States Magistrate Judge Jeff Kaplan, DHS and ICE agents arrived at a Dallas datacenter Tuesday with orders to take down the 146,500 member RapGodFathers site (RGF), seize its servers and gather evidence on its owners, administrators and moderators.

#WuThursdays

Says RZA:

THIS IS A SONG TALKING ABOUT HOW PEOPLE TRY TO TELL WHAT TO DO AND WHAT TO BE… THE SONG CAN RELATE TO A RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MAN AND WOMAN OR CITIZENS AND AUTHORITY…OR JUST ANY CONFRONTATION SUCH AS A BOUNCER AT A CLUB WITH THE GUEST LIST… PEACE, RZA
