Triple-negative breast cancers (negative for estrogen receptor [ER], progesterone receptor [PR], and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 [HER2]), are 3-fold more common in black women than in nonblack women, regardless of age or body mass index (BMI), according to the results of a study reported in the March 25 issue of Breast Cancer Research.
“We investigated clinical and pathologic features of breast cancers (BC) in an unselected series of patients diagnosed in a tertiary care hospital serving a diverse population,” write Lesley A. Stead, from Boston University Medical Center in Massachusetts, and colleagues. “We focused on [Tneg] tumours ([ER], [PR] and HER2 negative), which are associated with poor prognosis.”
Between 1998 and 2006, 415 women were diagnosed with invasive breast cancers and had available data on tumor grade and stage; ER, PR, and HER2 status; and patient age, BMI, and self-identified racial/ethnic group. Using contingency tables and multivariate logistic regression, the investigators evaluated associations between patient and tumor characteristics.

Time Warner Cable, one of the nation’s largest Internet service providers, has refused to turn over customers accused in a lawsuit by Larry Flynt Publishing of pirating one of the company’s porn films, according to Flynt’s attorney.
In October, Dallas-based attorney Evan Stone filed three separate lawsuits against more than 4,000 “John Does,” alleging the defendants illegally shared the movie “This Ain’t Avatar XXX.” The copyright suit was filed on behalf of Larry Flynt Publishing (LFP), which oversees Flynt’s adult-entertainment empire, including Hustler magazine.
The identities of the accused are unknown because Stone only possesses Internet protocol addresses of people alleged to have used peer-to-peer software to pirate films. To identify the defendants, he needs each person’s ISP to match IP addresses to names. Stone said TWC agreed to only turn over 10 names per month, an amount that he said is totally unsatisfactory. A TWC spokesman declined to commen
Melanin saves the day again…
Tiny, melanin-covered nanoparticles may protect bone marrow from the harmful effects of radiation therapy, according to scientists at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University who successfully tested the strategy in mouse models. Infusing these particles into human patients may hold promise in the future. The research is described in the current issue of the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology and Physics. Radiation therapy is used to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors. But because radiation also damages normal cells, doctors must limit the dose. Melanin, the naturally occurring pigment that gives skin and hair its color, helps shield the skin from the damaging effects of sunlight and has been shown to protect against radiation.
“A technique for shielding normal cells from radiation damage would allow doctors to administer higher doses of radiation to tumors, making the treatment more effective,” said Ekaterina Dadachova, Ph.D., associate professor of nuclear medicine and of microbiology & immunology and the Sylvia and Robert S. Olnick Faculty Scholar in Cancer Research at Einstein, as well as senior author of the study.
In previously published research, Dr. Dadachova and colleagues showed that melanin protects against radiation by helping prevent the formation of free radicals, which cause DNA damage, and by scavenging the free radicals that do form.
“We wanted to devise a way to provide protective melanin to the bone marrow,” said Dr. Dadachova. “That’s where blood is formed, and the bone-marrow stem cells that produce blood cells are extremely susceptible to the damaging effects of radiation.”
In the most provocative Black Film since “ROOTS”, Janks Morton presents a searing examination of the role that myths, stereotypes and misperceptions have played in the decimation of modern era Black relationships, and how the symbiotic relationship between Government, the Media and Special Interests perpetuates misinformation to further marginalize the role of Black Men in society.
Since the triumphs of the Civil Rights Legislations of the early 1960’s, havoc and disarray has been wreaked on the Black Family with a specific devastation on the Black Man. With the negative imagery of the Media, the failed policy of the Great Society, and modern era Black Leadership abandoning tenets that historically held the community together, a new form of mental slavery has perpetuated an “UNDECLARED CIVIL WAR” in the Black Community…

A remarkable study published in the Cochrane Libary found no evidence of benefit for influenza vaccinations and also noted that the vast majority of trials were inadequate.
The authors stated that the only ones showing benefit were industry-funded. They also pointed out that the industry-funded studies were more likely to be published in the most prestigious journals…and one more thing: They found cases of severe harm caused by the vaccines, in spite of inadequate reporting of adverse effects.
The study, “Vaccines for preventing influenza in healthy adults”, is damning of the entire pharmaceutical industry and its minions, the drug testing industry and the medical system that relies on them.
In the usual manner of understatement, the authors concluded:
The results of this review seem to discourage the utilisation of vaccination against influenza in healthy adults as a routine public health measure. As healthy adults have a low risk of complications due to respiratory disease, the use of the vaccine may be only advised as an individual protection measure against symptoms in specific cases.
Welcome to “The Love Movement.” This past week I asked a few good friend one important question; “What does love me to you?” I am not talking about being “in love”; I’m talking about love in general. Here are the answers from few friends and love ones; this is love from their perspective.
Please note: All of the replies below were answered via text message, e-mail, and Facebook.
For me to love something… Whether it be a person, object, idea, activity….. I feel I can’t live my life without it then I truly love it. If I can wake up tomorrow and that thing is gone and I wouldn’t care then I don’t.
-Ms. Nicholson
Love to me is selflessness. Doing something for someone because you want to do it and not expecting anything in return.
-Ms. Phoenix
Love is caring for another person, love is trusting that person with your feelings, love is only wanting that one person no matter the temptation of other human beings, love is being able to tell the other person everything no matter what, love is building a bond that cant be broken… that’s how I feel about love….But F*^K LOVE.
-Ms. Richardson (Aka Ms. Love Hater)
I like how I love u (no homo). Respect, loyalty, honesty, trustworthy, death b4 dishonor. To me when u love somebody all of these things r very relevant keys.
-Mr. Hughes (Aka C. Styles)
Love is acceptance and appreciation for something or someone that contributes to you joy or delight. Love is an expression of acceptance and appreciation for someone or some things contribution to your joy and delight.

When you turn the corner on a particular county road here, a huge two-story golden colored home, a pond, cows, chickens, and horses sitting on 30 acres will likely bring a smile to your face.
Following the program of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad, several male members of Muhammad Mosque No. 45 have pooled their finances, knowledge, and skills to cultivate the raw milk dairy known as Pure Farms.
“Every time I come here to work on the farm I get excited because it is a great feeling to see a vision come into reality,” says Victor X, farm manager, as he operates one of the many tractors.

Brother Victor stresses the importance of ownership and the need for people to grow their own foods. “There is nothing like seeing where your food comes from. There’s nothing like eating from your own land or garden. That’s the best food you can have on your table. We can’t keep depending on others to feed us. We need to buy land,” he said.
Twice a day, farm manager Kelvin Muhammad milks over 20 cows to fill gallons of raw milk that is sold to consumers. He and his wife reside on the farm and he feels he has found his purpose in life.
“If someone had told me years ago that I would be a dairy farmer I would have laughed at them. But I love the farm life and I love doing a work that helps provide raw milk for our people and other pure foods,” said Bro. Kelvin. (more…)
