MSGE President Jay Marciano Resigns, Moving To AEG Europe

by iSpit

Everybody with any good sense is leaving Amerikkka… stay tuned

Madison Square Garden Entertainment President Jay Marciano has resigned from that position and will be named CEO of Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) Europe, sources told Billboard.biz. He will replace David Campbell, who left that position at AEG in February to become a top executive with Formula One racing.

Marciano, a veteran executive in the venue and live entertainment space, joined MSGE in March of 2005. As President of MSGE, Marciano oversaw  bookings and productions at Radio City Music Hall,  Madison Square Garden, the Theater at Madison Square Garden, the Beacon Theatre, and the Chicago Theatre, among other projects, including the touring and residency productions of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular and a $10 million renovation of the Beacon.
Marciano will relocate from New York to London, where he will run all of AEG’s European operations, including the O2 Arena, the top-grossing arena in the world for the past two years (a position long-held by the Garden).

Facebook Bans 20,000 Underage Users Per Day

by iSpit

Facebook chief privacy advisor Mozelle Thompson appeared before the Australian Parliament’s cyber-safety committee this week to discuss Internet-related security issues. Thanks to the event, we learned that about 20,000 users are kicked off Facebook every day for various infractions, including for lying about their age.

“There are people who lie. There are people who are under 13 [accessing Facebook],” Thompson told Federal Parliament’s cyber-safety committee, according to The Telegraph. “Facebook removes 20,000 people a day, people who are underage.”

Although the company requires its users to be at least 13-years-old, the limit is easily circumvented, like on pretty much any website on the Internet. “While the social network (more…)

Mothers By: Eric Blair

by Mr. Blair

I have two mothers.  Well… I had two mothers for the first twenty-four years of my life. Their names are Mary Ann and Brenda Blair. Mary Ann was also known as Nookie.  She was my kind, loving, and amazing grandmother that passed away two years ago. I am not here to dwell on death and the afterlife; we’re all here today to celebrate a great woman’s life. Brenda, also known as Neicy, is my hard ass but strong and beautiful mother. These women made me into the man I am today. It wasn’t always easy being a single mom raising three children with help from my grandmother but we all turned out decently. I can’t return the favor right now for all the hard work you two ladies put in to raise us, but I can thank you and show the world why you guys are such wonderful mothers.

Mary Ann Blair, what can I say about this little lady?  I think I may have gotten my passion of storytelling from her. From a young age I can remember when she’d always had a story to tell. Anything that we’d done as children, she had a story for it. As I am writing this I begin to reminiscence of the time I would comb my grandmother’s hair (Yeah, I said I use to comb my grandmother’s hair as a child. I dare you to laugh at me. Ha!). My grandmother told me (more…)

Microsoft’s Paul Allen Sues Apple, Facebook, Google, Aol, Ebay, Youtube, Netflix, Yahoo, Office Max & Staples

by iSpit

Seattle Times

Earlier in December, co-founder of Microsoft Paul Allen decided that it would be a good idea to sue Apple, Google, Facebook, eBay, AOL, Netflix, Yahoo, Google’s YouTube, OfficeMax, Office Depot and Staples for violation of one of his patents. The patent in question relates to software that brings up information on related content to a search query or whatever you may happen to be looking at, whether it be an album in iTunes or a potential purchase on a website. The suit was thrown out on December 10 on account of it being “too vague” and Allen was given until December 28 to cut out the ambiguity and amend his case. So December 28 rolls around and guess what Paul Allen does. That’s right, he comes back with a new case. We’ll be watching this case with bated breath, and while Allen’s case is pretty much him throwing things against the wall and seeing what’ll stick, if he wins the payout will be rather large — think (more…)

iTunes Monopoly? Apple’s Jobs Ordered by Judge to Answer Anti-Competition Charges

by iSpit

Apple Inc. Chief Executive Steve Jobs, who is out on medical leave, has been ordered by a federal magistrate to answer questions from plaintiffs’ lawyers in an antitrust lawsuit related to his company’s iTunes business.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Howard Lloyd, based in San Jose, California, ruled that lawyers representing the plaintiffs in the suit may question Jobs for a total of two hours. He issued the ruling on Monday.

Apple could appeal the ruling to a district judge, but it would likely have to make a case that the magistrate “made a big mistake,” said Professor David Levine at University of California Hastings College of the Law.

An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment, and attorneys for the plaintiffs did not respond to requests for comment.

In the class-action lawsuit, a group of consumers say Apple created a music-downloading monopoly with its iPod player and iTunes store. At issue is a piece of (more…)

4 Star General Discussed Plan to Invade Libya in 2007

by iSpit

This interview with General Wesley Clark with Amy Goodman took place on March 2nd 2007. He explains that the Bush Administration planned to take out 7 countries in 5 years: Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Iran (2007 up to 2012). I guess that the Obama Administration devised a slightly edited version of that plan.

General Wesley Clark, U.S. Army (ret) — Former Commanding General of U.S. European Command, which included all American military activities in the 89 countries and territories of Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Additionally, Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), which granted him overall command of NATO military forces in Europe 1997 – 2001. Awarded Bronze Star, Silver Star, and Purple Heart for his service in Viet Nam and numerous subsequent medals and citations.

Google, Microsoft, eBay, Yahoo And Facebook Trash AT&T-Mobile Deal

by iSpit

With the fate of the $39 billion acquisition of T-Mobile by AT&T in Washington’s hands, all the big tech players are moving their pawns. And now the Computer & Communications Industry Association, a trade group that includes Google, Microsoft, eBay, Yahoo and Facebook, has come out against the deal.

The argument is what’s to be expected: this merger will be bad for competition, and therefore bad for innovation and consumers. Regardless of the merits, what’s going on here is that the companies in the “application layer” of the web don’t want the companies who own the pipes, whether they’re mobile or internet, to gain too much power.
