Ray J Speaks With Power 105.1 On Beef With Fabolous (Video)

So the final verdict on the true story is still out but…do you really care??

Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s triumphant win this past weekend wasn’t the only fight that rocked Sin City. Rapper Fabolous and singer Ray J reportedly got into it backstage at the Palms just before Fab was set to hit the stage. According to website Bossip, Ray J set things off when he punched the Brooklyn rapper in the face following a joke Fab made about the singer over social network Twitter.

“Nah but Floyd saying we havin a concert in my living room & the camera cuts to Ray J singing “One Wish” on the piano had me in tears!!” Fabolous tweeted on Sept. 17th, allegedly the center of Ray J’s beef. “Get it..? Ray J concert in the living room!! *Lil Wayne voice*”

Eyewitnesses on the scene say the fight didn’t end so well with Fabolous getting the best of Ray J who was eventually tossed from out the luxurious Palms hotel then later detained by Las Vegas cops.

Ray J himself confirmed half of the reports, that he was kicked out of the Palms and arrested following the incident. A number of celebrities were on hand for the incident including 50 Cent, Mayweather, Diddy and comedian Kevin Hart.

Earlier this morning Ray J phoned in to New York City’s Power 105 “Breakfast Club” show with DJ Envy, Charmalagne the God and Angela Yee.

“Ni–as sayin Ray J got beat up? I’ll sock that ni–a in his face again my ni–a.” All i’m saying if you got Fabs number tell that ni–a to send a picture of his face right now.”

During the conversation with the morning hosts Ray J confirmed that his issue with Fab stemmed from a few jokes the rapper sent his way that he didn’t find quite funny. In a recent episode of HBO’s “24/7″ show documenting the road to Mayweather’s fight against Ortiz, in one scene Ray J is playing the piano in the champ’s living room singing his song “One Wish.”

“Don’t disrespect me and Floyd like that” Ray J continued raging. “I play piano on that muthaf–kin piano every day, thats my big brother, ni–a we grew up together. So if you think that I just came over there and sang a song, ni–a you got me twisted. Ni–a im over there everyday.”

Following the fight Fabolous went on to perform at the palms alongside LOX rappers Jadakiss and Styles P.

POST NUMBER 5000 – A BENCHMARK IN TIME…OR WHATEVER

by iSpit

This Jimi Hendrix poster was made from 5000 guitar picks

Hotep

I don’t even know where to begin; I guess I’ll start by stating this: I’m not really into awards and accolades, only because I feel that the work I have put in validates itself. While much appreciated, from my perspective there isn’t a need for outside kudos. (Though, I do enjoy all of your tweets, facebook messages, texts & emails)

Anywho, I’m told that this is a benchmark in time that I should wholeheartedly acknowledge and be proud of so…Here we are. 5000 in (& counting). A lot of websites don’t make it to 5000 posts. So I am thankful we’ve mad it thus far… Honestly, I’m just happy to be here… I know that sounds cliche and unlike me, but that’s the simple way of putting it. More than that, I’m glad that people are still reading and educating themselves while enjoying good music without consequences (No Kanye…even though that would’ve made an excellent popshot) and allowing me to provide the means for such. I dont consider myself a blogger, I’m just a being with an opinion that happens to be common amongst the underground overstanders & thinkers. So I write/post articles that I feel are relevant to current conditions surrounding my core demographic… Which is EVERYBODY!

I can be very cynical & sarcastic at times but its all in good fun (or not). So it shouldn’t be taken that seriously (read as: it should be taken VERY seriously) when I write about people you like. Whether it be your favorite artist, movie star, basketball players, ”cross dressing” movie director, or “alien looking” ex-television host, I don’t attack people who I feel don’t deserve it. Take your precious “Officer Bawse” aka Rick Ross for instance; I know Rick Ross is the hottest rapper in the game right now (which DOES NOT mean the best lyricist) so for his business acumen and time spent to get where he is today, I (more…)

Hip-Hop Marketing: An Interview with Nah Right’s Eskay

by iSpit

DZ: A lot of rap artists are getting involved in Twitter and doing very well with stuff like trending hashtags. Does social media actually sell records?

Eskay: I think social media contributes to the public’s awareness about an artist and that awareness then (hopefully) turns into album or single sales. Social media in the context of any recording artist is a marketing tool, and like any marketing tool can backfire on you and end up hurting you if you don’t put enough thought into it.

DZ: Beyond record and ticket sales what are Hip-Hop marketers measuring? What should they be measuring, what’s the most important metric? Followers, fans, mix tape downloads, etc?

Eskay: I think that online, it’s an artist’s overall digital footprint. How many pageviews does their website get? How many Twitter followers? How many retweets, how many Facebook friends/fans, number of mixtape downloads and Youtube views, all of that stuff can give you a picture of what kind of noise a particular act is making. At the same time though, I think you have to take those numbers with a grain of salt. On the “rap Internet”, numbers are often fabricated by dishonest artists and sites, and even legitimate numbers can fail to give you an (more…)

WorldStarHipHop EXPOSED: The Truth Behind The Controversial Site

by iSpit

Tuesday nights are cracking at Greenhouse, a club on the west side of lower Manhattan. The establishment was featured in Fabolous’ video for “Lights Out,” and this evening patrons re-create the ambiance. Beneath a sea of crystalline rods that hang from the ceiling, a swarm of rappers, athletes, hustlers and hot girls toast Rosé and bounce to DJ Clue’s sound selections. Of course Fabolous is there, along with players from the Memphis Grizzlies, New York Giants and New York Jets. Then there are the others blending in among the highfliers, the people who lurk in the shadows of celebrity. Characters like Lee “Q” O’Denat, the man behind controversial video site WorldStarHipHop.com, has two tables stocked with champagne, Patrón and women. When an argument between two girls breaks out nearby, Q’s bodyguard leaps in the way, while Q parties on, unfazed. Later in the evening, a member of the G-Unit camp—a tough-looking customer with gold teeth and an impassive face—whispers in Q’s ear. When the G-Unit soldier departs, Q recounts the conversation. “He wanted me to come by the G-Unit office,” he says with an incredulous (more…)

IAmNotADictionary Phrase Of The Day: Official Ronald Reagan #Fail Day (March 30th)

by iSpit

IAmNotADictionary Phrase Of The Day: March 30th – Official #Fail Day – Today marks the day that it all went wrong. Today is the anniversary of one of the most (if not the most) major fail in the history of Amerikkka. 30 Years ago on  this day (March 30th) in 1981, only 69 days into his presidency,  President Ronald Reagan was shot in the chest by John Hinckley as he left the Washington Hilton Hotel.

So, I really should’ve called this “F*ck John Hinckley Day” because he f*cked up big time. How did he shoot six times & miss from point blank range? He was shooting Ronald Regan not 50 Cent. #Fail… He officially #Failed. Now, I’m not advocating murder (per say) but what I am saying is that the world would’ve been much better off without him. John could’ve made it so Regan-nomics never existed & crack never even made it into black communities. It was only 69 days into his presidency so if he was “assassinated” he would’ve become a national hero instead of the bane of (Black) Amerikkka’s existance. In 81 people were still freebasing (which wasn’t much better than crack, but it was more natural than crack) really dead yet. Hip-hop was still a baby & things weren’t perfect, but it was a much simpler time.

That botched assassination attempt was the catalyst for the new Brady gun laws and all types of unnecessary (more…)

Fake Smithsonian Ads Highlight Hardcoreness of Historic Figures; Museum Not Pleased

by iSpit

Gucci Mane Feat. 50 Cent – Recently

Jenny Burrows and Matt Kappler teamed up to create “Historically Hardcore,” a lovingly crafted series of ads for the Smithsonian that one-up the exploits of modern-day rockers and rappers with tales of historic figures, well, being hardcore.

The ads are not official Smithsonian copy, however, but were a portfolio project for both artists. At that, over the past few days they have stirred up a ton of interest in history and in the Smithsonian online, particularly among the younger audience they were trying to reach with their light tone and contemporary references.

Mission accomplished, right? The Smithsonian didn’t think so. Burrows writes that shortly after the ads went viral and she began receiving requests from local media outlets, she got in touch with the Smithsonian to make sure they were square.

Well, they were less than pleased about the attention the posters were getting and requested that I take them down immediately. Honestly, i don’t blame them. If someone put something out there with my name on it, I wouldn’t be too happy about it either, no matter how awesome it was.

I immediately complied, getting rid of any trace of the museum’s logo, name, and building on the posters and my portfolio site they were posted to. I’m not really one that goes around trying to piss people off. Especially government-run facilities.

As Burrows points out, the Smithsonian’s reaction is understandable from a branding perspective, but it is really a shame that it pushed away free, effective ads that engaged young people.
