The End Is Near: Justin Bieber Has A Startup

A new Justin Bieber video is circulating of Justin Bieber playing basketball with NBA star Steve Nash.

The play date happened at Chelsea Piers in late June.

How is this relevant to tech, you ask?

One of the other players was Mike Duda (in blue), co-partner of Nash’s venture capital firm, Consigliere Brand Capital.

Consigliere has invested in three New York-based startups: Birchbox, StellaService and Chloe & Isabel.

Why would Justin Bieber spend the afternoon horsing around with investors?

We’re guessing it’s because the singer is investing in startups. In fact, we know he is investing in startups. We heard about a stealth New York startup Bieber invested in last week.

We’re not at liberty to announce which startup just yet.  All we can tell you is that the Bieber-backed startup will be a good-natured Zynga, and it has other high-profile celebrity backers on board.

Sometimes major labels just get things wrong, and there’s no better illustration than the case of the singer-songwriter formerly known as Lonny Breaux. After Hurricane Katrina hit his hometown of New Orleans, Breaux moved to Los Angeles to pursue a recording career. There, he landed songwriting gigs for the likes of Brandy, John Legend and even Justin Bieber, as well as a recording contract with Def Jam. And there he sat, as many artists do, his solo debut permanently in limbo almost before it got off the ground. But hell hath no fury like a recording artist scorned.

In protest, the 23-year-old quietly old went off the reservation and aligned himself with the buzzed-about (and fretted-over) indie rap/hooligan/creative collective Odd Future, whom he credits with inspiring a new-found DIY drive. He then rechristened himself Frank Ocean and, in February, proceeded to self-release Nostalgia, Ultra for free and on his own Tumblr. With no formal promotion, buzz spread rapidly by word of mouth; in a matter of weeks, Ocean went from unknown quantity to critical and industry darling, with the likes of Diddy and Lupe Fiasco singing his praises.  Pope Benedict XVI, f*ck outta here. So you expect us to believe that you DIDNT know that the priest are f*cking little boys faster than I-80 going north?

OK, so lets give you the benefit of the doubt because you’re old…and possibly disconnected (Does the Pope have a twitter?)…and maybe you don’t know whats going on outside the bubble you live in. (Pope mobile is kinda fly if you’re into looking like you’re driving in a shoe) I mean Malcolm X had no idea Honorable (ironic) Elijah Muhammad was having sex with waaay underage girls so you might be in the same boat. (did I just compare the Pope to Malcolm X?)

I think not. You knew. Don’t say you didn’t when you did… See Pope, I know your game. i know a lot of people like you. They told you a long time ago and you sat on the information. Why? Well you sat on it for a few reasons:

1. It would make you look reeeeeeally bad as some sort of leader. You’re supposed to be…uh…I..uh..Wait, what does the Pope do anywho? Somebody email me or comment and please inform me. I have no clue what this guy does besides wave…He cant believe that he sits at the feet of “God” because hes always in ‘all bulletproof everything’.

Asher Roth’s Manager Scooter Braun Arrested

Scott “Scooter” Braun is Asher Roth’s manager, but he got arrested today for another act he manages: Justin Bieber. He surrendered himself to Nassau County police today and awaits arraignment on charges of reckless endangerment and criminal nuisance, to which his lawyer says he will plead not guilty.

The arrest stems from a planned mall appearance in Long Island dating back to November. Police told Scooter to send out a Twitter message saying that the event got canceled when the crowd got unruly, but the prosecutor says it took him an hour and a half to write two tweets. His lawyer says it took seven minutes.

If convicted he could spend a year in prison.
