Manny Pacquiao Accepts Floyd Mayweather Jr’s challenge; Wants 50/50 Split

by iSpit

Manny Pacquiao‘s camp says there is no economic sense in setting up a bout with Floyd Mayweather on May 5 after the unbeaten American publicly challenged the Filipino champion via Twitter.

Pacquiao’s financial adviser Michael Koncz told The Associated Press on Thursday that a 45,000-seat boxing arena being built in Las Vegas won’t be finished before the end of May and staging the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight in a smaller venue is “foolish from an economic standpoint.”

Mayweather challenged and taunted Pacquiao to a May 5 bout in a tweet on Tuesday.

Manny Pacquiao I’m calling you out let’s fight May 5th and give the world what they want to see,” he tweeted.

Mayweather is available for a fight in May at the MGM Grand Garden after a judge agreed last week to postpone his jail sentence for domestic violence until June. Mayweather was sentenced to 87 days in jail, but likely will serve less time.

The MGM Grand seats about 17,000, which could fetch around $20 million in sales, but the larger arena could raise an additional $30 million, Koncz said.

“Why would I tell Manny to fight on the 5th and throw away a percentage of 30 million? That’s crazy,” he said.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has told the PhilippinesGMA television the only reason the fight won’t happen is if there is an “economic problem.”

He said the fight “could happen very, very easily” at the end of May — enough time to build the outdoor arena “the fight so badly needs.”

“I will also guarantee Manny’s purse,” he said. “In other words, Manny doesn’t want to go into the ring and just fight out a percentage.”

He said Mayweather is looking for “outside parties to guarantee his end of the purse.”

“So, until he finds the angel, there is no fight,” Arum said.

In a separate interview with GMA, Pacquiao said that if Mayweather agrees to a “50-50 sharing, there will be no problem.”

“The purse is not the issue right now, the date is,” Koncz said. “But we don’t have a problem splitting it 50-50.”

The Power of Flash Mobs: You Cannot Police Hopelessness and Despair!

by iSpit

When will Violent Flash Mobs come to your city

or to Canada or the United Kingdom and what can be done to prevent them from forming?
by Phillip Jackson
There are those who are angered and surprised by the violence of  urban “Flash Mobs” (quickly forming groups of young people using technology to organize), especially crowds of young Black men, descending on mostly White, affluent downtown American cities.  However, if we analyze this phenomenon, it is not so surprising.  In fact, it is highly predictable.  While there is no justification for young Black men to rob and beat people of any race, the activities of flash mobs are easily predictable in the context of recent social history and current economic conditions.
Most of these young men are poor, desperate and hopeless.  They come from broken families and broken communities.  They have been failed by their  schools and by social and faith organizations in their communities.  They don’t have jobs and many of them will never have jobs.  They live at the bottom rung of society.  The kind of havoc they wreak among us through “flash mobbing” is the kind of havoc they have lived with their entire young lives.  For them, there is a perverse kind of justice and sense of fairness in their ability to create flash mobs that breathe terror into the hearts of other Americans.
Predictive factors for young Black males participating in the activities of violent flash mobs in Chicago are shown by recent data:
■This summer, 90% of young Black men in Chicago between 16 and 19 years old are unemployed.
■Only 44% of Black males graduate with a high school diploma from Chicago public schools.
■Only three out of 100 Black boys who start kindergarten in the Chicago Public Schools earn a bachelors degree by age 25.
■70% of Black children in America are born into and live in single, female-headed households that are usually impoverished.
■Black males are 6% of Illinois’ population but they represent 60% of the state’s prison population.
The power and strength of a flash mob are in its large number of congregants and in its ability to assemble quickly and to disband (more…)

FBI Raids Chuck E. Cheese For “Undermining U.S. Currency”

by iSpit

The FBI and the Secret Service showed their willingness today to utilize the expanded definitions of “counterfeit currency” and “domestic terrorism” brought about by the recent conviction of Bernard von NotHaus of the alternative currency outlet “Liberty Dollar” when the agencies initiated a surprise raid on an unsuspecting Chuck E. Cheese establishment in Des Moines, Iowa.

Chuck E Cheese is charged with violations of 18 U.S.C. § 514, which covers the counterfeiting of Federal instruments, including currency, as well as 18 U.S.C. § 486, which states:

Whoever, except as authorized by law, makes or utters or passes, or attempts to utter or pass, any coins of gold or silver or other metal, or alloys of metals, intended for use as current money, whether in the resemblance of coins of the United States or of foreign countries, or of original design, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.

The statute phrases “intended for use as current money”, as well as “of original design” are extremely vague and wide open for any number of unconstitutional interpretations. Traditionally, the concept of “resemblance” or “similitude” in terms of counterfeiting has been considered to mean an attempt to make an exact copy or near exact copy of a unit of U.S. currency with the intent to illegally replicate its appearance as well as its value. However, the FBI found that the Liberty Dollar decision, and the “precedent” set by it, actually expanded the definition of “resemblance and (more…)

O.J. Simpson Requests Appeal

by iSpit

O.J. Simpson asked the full Nevada Supreme Court on Thursday to do what three of its members have already declined to do — overturn his conviction and sentence in a botched Las Vegas hotel room heist.

Las Vegas lawyer Malcolm LaVergne argued in his last-step appeal to the state’s highest court that the jury in Simpson’s 2008 trial in Las Vegas wasn’t fully screened for bias, that blacks were improperly dismissed from the jury and that kidnapping charges weren’t proved.

“Simply stated, having an all-white jury sitting in judgment of an African-American who was at the epicenter of the most racially divisive criminal trial of all time during the mid-1990s is simply unacceptable, regardless of Mr. Simpson’s notoriety,” the 12-page document said.

The appeal was expected after a three-justice panel rejected Simpson’s appeal in October. The panel also denied Simpson a rehearing in February. Simpson is currently serving a 9 to 33 year sentence.

It also might not be the last word in the case if the former college and professional football star, actor, advertising pitchman and celebrity criminal defendant loses and appeals to federal courts.

The appeal was notable for the absence of involvement of Simpson trial attorney Yale Galanter. He represented Simpson before and after his arrest in Las Vegas, but he (more…)

Oceans 1??: The Bellagio Casino Robbed For $1.5 Million…On A Motorcycle

by iSpit

An armed bandit escaped Tuesday on a motorcycle after stealing at least $1.5 million in casino chips from the posh Bellagio resort and may have pulled a similar caper across town less than a week ago, police said.
The culprit, however, might find it hard to redeem his loot because the chips are only good at the high-end, Italian-themed hotel-casino with a wall of famous fountains along the Las Vegas Strip.
The 3:50 a.m. robbery at a craps table happened “about as quick as you can do it,” when a man wearing a motorcycle helmet pulled a gun on patrons, police Lt. Clinton Nichols told The Associated Press.
Police later released an 11-second video showing a man in a jumpsuit running through a casino entry lobby with a gun in his right hand. At one point, he turned and pointed the weapon behind him. His helmet appeared to be red with twin white stripes from front to rear.
