Chris Rock x Scott Raab: The LeBron Conversation

by iSpit

SCOTT RAAB: I’m writing a book about LeBron. I’m a Cleveland guy. I’m mad at him.

CHRIS ROCK: I don’t even see what the big story is. The owner’s an idiot. Why is the owner an idiot? I said it on television — you can look it up. I was at a Lakers game — they were probably playing the Knicks. It was on TNT, and Kenny and Mark Jackson and whoever interviewed me on the sidelines, they asked me about LeBron. I said, “They should trade him.” I said it, on national television.

SR: We thought he was coming back, Chris.

CR: I said you should trade him. I said any owner, any big-ego owner would take this shot. You could’ve got any player — you literally could’ve got Kobe Bryant. You could’ve got any player you wanted. You could’ve gotten literally any player outside of Kevin Durant and Dwight Howard. Any player. You could’ve got any two or three players you liked. I said this on national television. You could look it up — you’re a writer.

I said that in the middle of the season. The day the season was over, I was doing press for Grown Ups, the movie I did with Sandler. They asked me again: “Where’s LeBron going? What’s going to happen?” I said, “Well, if he’s going to Cleveland, you will know within 24 hours, but if Pat Riley gets him in a room, it’s all over.”

SR: We thought he was coming back.

CR: Why would you think he’s coming back? People move from Cleveland to Miami every fucking day. They don’t move from (more…)

Shaquille O’Neal Signs To The Boston Celtics

by iSpit

Shaquille O’Neal was introduced as a member of the Boston Celtics on Tuesday morning, saying that the sole reason he came to Boston was to try to add to his title haul and that he is willing to play any role Doc Rivers envisions for him.

“When I came into the league, I wanted to compete with Bill Russell for titles,” O’Neal said with Russell’s 11 championship banners hanging above him. “That’s not going to happen, but I’d like to almost get half of what he got.”

O’Neal, who was decked out in a pinstriped suit and a bow tie for the introduction, could start the season as the Celtics’ backup center, with Jermaine O’Neal taking the starting spot while Kendrick Perkins works his way back from knee surgery. No matter the role, the 38-year-old Shaq insisted Tuesday that he still has the same fire.

“I still have hunger, I still can play, I still want to win,” O’Neal said. “When I close my book at the end of the day it’s all about winning, nothing else.”

Shaq, who has won four NBA titles over the course of his career, told reporters he had hoped to end his career with five or six titles. He signed a two-year deal with the Celtics in what is likely his final NBA contract.

“This summer I had many options but I wanted to be with a team that was used to winning, with a team that was one or two pieces away,” O’Neal said. “I think it’s a good fit.”

In Case You Care: LeBron James Finally Chooses…

by iSpit

The most highly-anticipated and celebrated free agent decision in NBA history finally was resolved on Thursday, with LeBron James ending nearly two years of speculation by choosing to sign with the Miami Heat. Seated in a chair and flanked by dozens of children, James made his announcement in an interview with Jim Gray at a local Boys and Girls Club in Greenwich, Conn., during an hour-long primetime special on ESPN.

James, a native of Akron and Northern Ohio’s favorite son, had spent his entire career in Cleveland, leading the franchise to its only NBA Finals appearance in 2007 and winning two NBA MVP awards.

James met with six teams in the first three days of the free agent negotiating period — New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Miami, the Los Angeles Clippers and Cleveland. Leading up to the unprecedented telecast, rumors had been swirling about a possible union of the three biggest prizes on a heralded free agent class, with Chris Bosh joining former NBA Finals MVP Dwyane Wade on the Heat. He supported those beliefs by proclaiming that the Heat “is going to give me the best opportunity to win and to win now. I want to be able to win championships and I feel like I can compete now. I’m looking forward to it.”

LeBron Makes One Free Agency decision

by iSpit

Well, LeBron has made at least one free agency decision. The Cavs star hinted on Sunday that he was close to signing a long-term extension with Nike to continue being one of the brand’s top pitchmen. His original seven-year contract worth more than $100 million — with at least $90 million guaranteed and a $10 million signing bonus — was set to expire in a few months. It isn’t clear how much his extension will be worth, but, well, does it really matter? Guy’s getting paid.

Jay-Z Explains Why He Didn’t Do “We Are The World 25″

by iSpit

At Jay-Z & LeBron’s 4th annual All-Star weekend “Two Kings” dinner, MTV asked Jay why he (wisely) chose not to participate in the We Are The World remake.

I have a interesting take on that. I know everybody is gonna take this wrong: “We Are the World,” I love it, and I understand the point and think it’s great. But I think “We Are the World” is like “Thriller” to me. I don’t ever wanna see it touched. I’m a fan of music. I know the plight and everything that’s going on in Haiti. I applaud the efforts. Like 1 out of 2 Americans donated through text to Haiti. That’s amazing. So I appreciate the efforts and everything, but “We are the World” is untouchable like “Thriller” is untouchable. Some things are just untouchable. It was a valiant effort, but for me, it’s gonna be untouchable.

Jay said he felt that a new song should have been written instead:

I would have loved that idea better. I have tremendous respect for Quincy Jones. Of course, I think he’s genius, as everyone else does. But I think it’s time for us to make a new song, our take on it… I tried to do that with “Stranded” [the song Jay, Rihanna and U2's Bono and The Edge premiered at the 'Hope for Haiti Now' telethon.]

Nipsey Hussle mentioned to XXL that he heard Jay-Z & Eminem had gone to the recording before he got there, so it seems like they gave it a chance before turning it down.

Hit the jump for photos from the Two Kings dinner. Guests included Diddy, Russell Simmons, Drake, Cortez Bryant, Dwayne Wade, Chris Paul, Steve Stoute, Gayle King, Michael Eric Dyson, Terrell Owens, Jason Kidd, Regina King, and more.
